ASHLAND, Ore.--- Competing in their first meet in over a year, Humboldt State's men's and women's track and field teams had three first place finishers in Day One of the SOU Meet #1 on the campus of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore. Leading the way for the Lumberjacks were the trio of
Rosa Granados,
Kegan Richards and
Carson Smith. Granados finishes first in the women's 3000-meter run while Richards captured the shot put and Smith the men's 3000-meter run.
"I was very proud of the team's performance today," said Humboldt State head track and field coach
Sarah Ingram. "We've had so many interruptions to training this year, but they're so grateful to be back at it, and hungry for it. Asking athletes to get on a bus at 5:30am and get right out to compete at a high level, after over a year off from competition is no easy feat. Despite the challenges, we had a lot of athletes set new personal records in their events, which I think is a testament to how much they want this. It's inspiring to see the growth in their mental toughness, and an exciting way to start off our week on the road. Let's keep up this energy! Go Jacks!"
Granados ran a 10:49.77 to capture the women's 3000-meter run this afternoon. Also finishing in the top eight for HSU in the 3000 were
