ARCATA, Calif--- After going 2-0 this past weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks are looking to continue their winning ways with two important NCAA Division II West Region matches in Hayward, Calif. The Lumberjacks will face Hawaii Pacific this Friday, September 10 at 7pm and Holy Names this Sunday, September 12 at 2pm. Both matches will take place at Pioneer Stadium on the campus of Cal State East Bay.
COACHING STAFF: Coach
Fred Jungemann is in his ninth year on the sideline for the Lumberjacks. This year, Coach Jungemann's assistants are three former Lumberjacks in
Frankie Calderon, Phil Rouse and
Isaiah Dairo who will begin their first year on the Lumberjack coaching staff.
RECAP OF UTAH: Humboldt State started its 2021 season with a 2-0 win over the hosts, Westminster Griffins this past Thursday in Salt Lake City.
Marco Silveira scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 65th minute on a ball from
Nicolas Herrera Land. The 'Jacks sealed the win on a goal by
Daniel Adeyeye off a ball from Silveira.
Adrian Gallardo posted five saves in the shutout for HSU. Two days later, HSU defeated Northwest Nazarene 4-0. HSU started its scoring on a goal by
Alejandro Lopez off a cross from Silveira in the 12th minute. Ten minutes into the second half, Silveira scored his second goal of the season on an unassisted goal. Humboldt State sealed the win on an unassisted goal by
Dylan Tovani in the 63rd minute. The scoring barrage by the 'Jacks was finished when Herrera Land connected on a ball from
Gou Nitta in the 74th minute. Gallardo finished the day with four saves.
DEFENSE WINS: Humboldt State's defense did not allow a goal in the Lumberjacks' two matches in Utah. During the pandemic 2020-21 season, the 'Jacks allowed just three goals in six matches including four shutouts. The Lumberjacks had stellar performances from their goalkeepers and defenders in
Adrian Gallardo,
Christian Gonzalez,
Sean Tucker,
Ethan Conaty,
Cole Falco and
Dylan Tovani. The back to back shutouts by the Lumberjacks was the first time since 2017 that they have posted back to back shutouts. Gallardo posted two shutouts and recorded nine saves in the two victories for the 'Jacks.

Marco Silveira leads the team with his two goals, two assists and six points. Silveira and
Alejandro Lopez each have recorded the Lumberjacks' two game-winning goals.
Nicolas Herrera Land has a goal and an assist for the 'Jacks.
Adrian Gallardo leads HSU with his 0.00 goals against average in goal with nine saves and a 1.000 saves percentage. Silveira leads the CCAA in points, goals and assists while Gallardo leads in goals against average, saves percentage, shutouts and is third in saves per game.
MOVING CLOSER:
Marco Silveira is two assists from moving past Armando Avila into fourth place on HSU's all-time career assists' list. He has scored ten goals and assisted on 17 goals during his collegiate career in the Green and Gold.

HAWAI'I PACIFIC SHARKS: Hawai'i Pacific enters Friday evening's contest with the 'Jacks with a 0-1 record after losing 2-0 to Chaminade this past weekend. Jeremy Zielinski posted four saves in goal for HPU. The Sharks went 3-0-1 in the pandemic year with four players scoring a goal paced by Austin Stafford's one goal and an assist. Zielinski had a 0.00 goals against average with a 1.000 saves percentage while Connor Margo had a 0.50 goals against average with ha .667 saves percentage. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
HOLY NAMES HAWKS: Holy Names is 1-0 after defeating Stanislaus State 5-4 this past weekend in Turlock in the Hawks' first match of the 2021 regular season. Pablo Ramirez Belmont scored two of the Hawks' five goals while three players each scored to lead HNU to the win. The Hawks went 1-5 during the pandemic season. Humboldt State leads the all-time series with the Hawks 4-1 with HNU's only win being a 3-2 win in 2019 in San Rafael. HSU won the previous four meetings including a 2-0 win in 2018 in Arcata. This past Spring, HSU defeated the Hawks 5-0 in a scrimmage with two of the five goals coming off the foot of
Motoki Sato.
HOME OPENER: Humboldt State's home opener is set for Friday, September 17 at 3pm when the 'Jacks host Simpson University at College Creek Field.
