SACRAMENTO, Calif.--- Cal Poly Humboldt's rowing team began their 2022 season at the Sacramento State Invitational at Lake Natoma in Sacramento. The Jacks competed against Sacramento State, Santa Clara, St. Mary's (Calif.), University of Portland and Orange Coast College.
The varsity 8+ finished in third place with a time of 7:20.4 ahead of St. Mary's and Santa Clara. In the varsity 4+, Humboldt finished fourth with a time of 8:25.9.
Humboldt's novice program also had a strong showing this morning. The Jacks had two boats in the novice 8+ with Humboldt capturing first with a time of 7:43.0 and finishing in third with a time of 8:26.5. In the novice 4+, the Jacks finished in third with a time of 8:40.8.
"We had a very good start to the season," said Cal Poly Humboldt head coach
Matt Weise. "The team did a good job of using their nerves to aid in their performance. All boats started well and raced competitively. They took a big stride in increasing their race intensity and now need to be able to perform at a higher technical level when they reach this state."
The Jacks will return to the water tomorrow morning at the Port of West Sacramento when they compete in the Aggie Invite, hosted by UC Davis.
