ARCATA, Calif.--- Cal Poly Humboldt men's and women's track and field team hosted the Humboldt Invitational in Redwood Bowl on the campus of Cal Poly Humboldt this afternoon. The Jacks' men's program captured the six-team invitational while the women finished in second place. Humboldt had five student-athletes capture first place in their eight events.
The Jacks had 59 top-five finishes this afternoon that had Simpson, Southern Oregon University, Multnomah University, Shasta College and the College of the Redwoods participating this afternoon's invitational. In those events, five Lumberjacks captured eight events.
MEN'S RECAP: Leading the way for Humboldt in the 100-meter was
Ryan Castro (third, 11.22) and
Grant Van Emmerik (fourth, 11.33). Van Emmerik was second in the 200 with a time of 22.51.
Malachi Arthur was third (22.88) and
Ryan Castro was fourth (23.38).
Aris Valerio captured the 800-meter with a time of 1:56.12 followed by
Julian Jensen in third (1:57.06),
Dominic Raffetto in fourth (2:00.17) and
Charles Becker-Ellison in fifth (2:00.45). Valerio also captured the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:56.94.
Carson Smith finished in second at 3:56.96 followed by
Sebastian Vaisset-Fauvel (third, 3:57.75),
Elliott Portillo (fourth, 4:01.52) and
Charles Becker-Ellison (fifth, 4:04.58). Smith won the 5000-meter with a time of 15:54.83 followed by Portillo (second, 15:56.02) and Cohn (fourth, 16;07.52).
Travis Allen finished in third in the 110-hurdles at 17.96 while
Shane Oliver won the 400-hurdles (58.74).
The team of
Julian Jensen,
Aris Valerio,
Travis Allen and
Shane Oliver finished in third in the 4x400 (3:34.02) while the team of
Charles Becker-Ellison,
Jaxon Leduc,
Sebastian Vaisset-Fauvel and Dominc Raffetto was fourth (3:38.46). Allen finished in second in the pole vault (2.80m, 9-2.25).
Jared Del Real captured the shot put (14.68m, 48-2) and the discus (44.93m, 147-5).
Kegan Richards was fifth with his throw of 13.50m (44-3.5) and third in the discus (44.62m, 146-5). Over in the hammer,
Jason Trent was fifth (40.99m, 134-6).
WOMEN'S RECAP: Humboldt had two athletes finish in the top five in the 100-meter dash.
Joy Hano finished in third place with a time of 12.63 followed by
Christina Roberds in fifth place (13.16).
Valerie Heywood continued the Jacks' day with a third-place time of 27.12 in the 200-meter dash. Heywood also finished in third place in the 400 (1:01.80). Finishing in the top five for the Jacks in the 800-meter run were
Rosa Granados (third, 2:19.62) and
Emily Bath (fourth, 2:22.63). Granados placed third in the 1500-meter run (4:46.52) while Bath was fifth with a time of 5:00.72. In the 5000-meter run, Granados was second with a time of 19:12.34 followed by
Sophie Smith in third (19:22.31).
Hano continued her stellar day with a first-place time of 14.85 in the 100-meter hurdles.
Grace Kasberger finished in fourth while Roberds was fifth with times of 16.39 and 16.65.
In the relays, the team of Hano,
Kayla Penny, Heywood and Kasberger finished in second with a time of 4:02.87. The team of Bath, Melissa PIntere,
Saedy Williamson and
Serena Smith finished in fourth (4:34.62).
Kaela Dennert-Frederick had a third-place jump of 1.52m (4-11.75) as did Kasberger. In a judge's decision, Denner-Frederick finished third. Hano finished in third in the long jump with a jump of 5.33m (17-6).
Over in the throws,
Delaena Montes was third in the shot put with a throw of 10.83m (35-6.5) and Dennert-Frederick was fourth (9.79m, 32-1.5). Dennert-Frederick finished in third in the hammer with her throw of 37.37m (122-7) while Kasberger was fourth in the javelin (27.68m, 90-10).
UP NEXT: The Lumberjacks will travel to the Bay Area this coming week for their next competitions. They will begin their weekend on Thursday, March 31 at the Chabot Invitational in Hayward, Calif. They will continue their weekend at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on Friday-Saturday, April 1-2 at Cox Stadium on the campus of San Francisco State University in San Francisco.
