CHICO, Calif.---Cal Poly Humboldt's
Joy Hano,
Grace Kasberger,
Kegan Richards,
Grant Van Emmerik and
Saedy Williamson led the way for the Lumberjack men's and women's track and field teams at the Chico Invitational today in Chico, Calif. All five finished first in their respective events. Hano won the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.00 while Richards had a first-place throw of 143-9 (42.83m) in the discus and Van Emmerick had a winning time of 48.14 in the 400, which is fourth in school history. Williamson had a first-place time of 18:39.40 in the 5000 for the Jacks and Kasberger jumped 5-1.76 (1.56m) to win the high jump.
Over on the women's side besides Hano. Kasberger and Williamson's first place times/marks, the Jacks had nine top-eight placers.
Valerie Heywood placed seventh in the 100 preliminaries (12.90) while she placed seventh in the 200 (1:00.80).
Rosa Granados finished in second in the 800 (2:19.37) and
Emily Bath was fourth (2:21.46).
The 4x100 relay team of
Christina Roberds,
Valerie Heywood,
Grace Kasberger and
Joy Hano finished in third with a time of 49.26.
Valerie Heywood,
Kayla Penny,
Emily Bath, and
Melissa Pinter combined to finish third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:16.27. Besides winning the 100 hurdles, Hano also won the long jump with a jump of 17-4.25 (5.29m).
Delaena Montes finished third in the shot put (37-7.75) and
Kaela Dennert-Frederick was eighth (32-7, 9.93m).Montes also finished eighth in the discus (101-4, 30.88m) and Dennert-Fredrick was seventh in the hammer (133-8, 40.74m).
Over on the men's side,
Ryan Castro was fifth in the 100 with a time of 11.31.
Lucio Rivas was sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:02.31.
Aris Valerio paced Humboldt with his fourth-place time of 3:54.96 followed by
Carson Smith in seventh place (3:57.18).
Travis Allen ran an 18.19 to finish in second in the 110-hurdles and
Shane Oliver was second in the 400-hurdles (59.52).
The 4x100 relay team of
Ryan Castro,
Malachi Arthur,
Travis Allen and
Grant Van Emmerik was second with a time of 43.35. The 4x400 team of Arthur,
Julian Jensen, Valerio and Van Emmerik was fourth (3:35.56) while the team of
Dominic Raffetto,
Charles Becker-Ellison,
Sebastian Vaisset-Fauvel and Smith was sixth in the 4x400 (3:48.03).
Allen tied for fourth in the high jump (5-8.75, 1.75m) while
Jared Del Real was second in the shot put (49-2.25,14.99m) and
Kegan Richards was fourth (46-2.75, 14.09m). Del Real was fourth in the discus (139-4, 42.46m) and
Jason Trent (131-10, 40.19m) was eighth in the hammer.
UP NEXT: Cal Poly Humboldt will be off until May 5-7 when the Jacks participate in the CCAA Championships at SF State.
