After Day One of Stanislaus State Multi-Event, Cal Poly Humboldt’s Kasberger in First Place While Allen in Third Place

Grace Kasberger is in first place at the Stanislaus Multi's after Day One
TURLOCK Calif.---   Cal Poly Humboldt's Grace Kasberger and Travis Allen are in first and third places respectively after Day One of the Stanislaus State Multi-Event. Highlighting the day for Kasberger was when she captured the high jump and 200-meter dash. Allen's highlights were when he captured the long jump and recorded a personal best throw in the shot put.

"Today was a solid performance for both Grace and Travis in Day 1 of their Hep/Dec competition," said head coach Sarah Ingram.  "They both achieved overall Day 1 PR's, besting their previous Day 1 best score by about 60-80 points each. I was very pleased with their consistency, especially in this heat, which we're really not accustomed to. They both took 1st in two events (Grace in high jump and 200m, Travis in long jump and shot put)."

Kasberger started her day finishing second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 16.70. She came back and won the high jump with a jump of 5-0.25 (1.53m).  In her next event, Kasberger finished third in the shot put with a throw of 28-5.50 (8.67m).  She finished day one with a first-place time of 27.60 in the 200-meter dash.

Heading into the final events of the heptathlon tomorrow morning, Kasberger is first with 2392 points followed by William Jessup's Jayden Jackson's 2371 points.  Sonoma State's Amber Lanza is third with 2082 points followed by San Francisco State's Shaeylynne Smith's 2058 points.  Rounding out the field are Sonoma State's Mia Oggenfuss (fifth, 1801 points) and Chico State's Talyn Steffens (sixth, 1710 points).

Allen began the first day of the decathlon with a fifth-place time of 12.11 in the 100-meter dash.  He came back and had a first-place jump of 20-10 (6.35m) in the long jump.  In the third event of the day, Allen finished second with a personal best throw of 39-11.25 (12.17m) in the shot put. Then in the high jump, Allen tied for fourth with a jump of 5-6 (1.68m) in the high jump.  Allen finished day one with a time of 56.41 in the 400-meter run.

UC Santa Cruz's Shea Whisler is in first-place with 3113 points after day one of the decathlon followed by his teammate, Daniel Browne, with 3059 points. The Jacks' Allen is in third place with 2981 points followed by Chico State's Zack Nelson's 2956 points.  Rounding out the field is Alexander Travis (William Jessup) with 2839 points (fifth place) and Chico State's Justin Craven (sixth, 2824 points).

"Grace is leading the competition going into Day 2, and Travis is in 3rd," added Ingram.  "Travis had 1 event that he lost points he was expecting, high jumping 5-6. He almost no heighted clearing his first bar on 3rd attempt so it was a relief that he got a couple bars, and really good to see him perform under that pressure to pull it off. He had a lifetime PR in SP today throwing over 12m! And he had consistent performances in his 400m and 100m races. Gracie didn't hit any individual event PR's today, but her events have improved so much since her first Hep that 3 of 4 events were Hep PR's improving her point totals from her previous Hep, and she's been really consistent across all her events which is not easy to do in conditions we're not used to. She made up some big points in the high jump, and performed solidly in all of her events. Graces field is small and going pretty quick, thankfully so she'll finish before the peak heat of the day. It's great to see some competition in this Hep from more women in our conference with representation from Chico, Sonoma, and San Francisco. She's looking strong leading her field going into Day 2, here we go!"

Day Two of the Stanislaus State Multi-Event will begin at 11am tomorrow morning in Turlock.  The final events of the decathlon are the 110-hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500-meters.  The three final events of the heptathlon are the long jump, javelin and 800-meters.
