Grace Kasberger Captures CCAA Heptathlon Title to Highlight Day Two for the Jacks

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--- Cal Poly Humboldt's Grace Kasberger became the 2022 CCAA Heptathlon Champion with 4288 points as she won two of the event's final three events today in San Francisco.  Kasberger is the first Jack to capture the conference heptathlon since 2017 when Marissa McCoy captured the multi-event with 5128 points.  Also earning All-CCAA honors today by finishing in the top three in their respective events was Travis Allen (third, decathlon, 5545 points),
 
Kasberger came in today's final three events in first place.  She continued right where she left off yesterday with a first-place jump of 16-11.25 (5.16m) in the long jump. This also a personal best jump for Kasberger by over five inches.  In the javelin, Kasberger finished third with a throw of 88-05 (26.94m).  She finished the heptathlon with a first-place time of 2:30.52 to capture the 2022 CCAA Heptathlon with a personal-best point of 4288 points, which is sixth all-time at Humboldt. 
 
Heading into the last five events today, Allen was in fifth place in this year's field.  He started out the day with a personal best time of 17.79 which placed him in fifth in the 110-hurdles.  Allen captured the next event with a first-place throw of 109-06 (33.39m) in the discus. In the pole vault, Allen had a personal best mark of 11-05.75 (3.50m) which placed him second. Then he had a throw of 151-06 (46.06m) which placed him in third in the javelin. 
 
Allen finished the day with a second-place time of 5:00.71 in the 1500.  With his personal best of 5545 points, Allen finished in third place to earn all-conference honors.  The Chico State duo of Zack Nelson (5768) and Aaron Mickelsen (5697) finished in first and second place to lead the field. 
 
Later in the day, Allen finished in eighth place in the long jump.  Allen's last attempt of 20-8 (6.30m) placed him eighth in the field.
 
Joy Hano started her day qualifying for the finals in the 100-hurdles which will take place at 2:50pm tomorrow afternoon.  Hano ran 14.58 to qualify for the finals tomorrow.  That time was the fastest in the 17th athlete field.  She just missed qualifying for the finals in the 100-meter dash by just 0.05 of a second.  Hano ran a 12.43 which finished ninth in the field just 0.05 behind Cal Poly Pomona's Kelsey Ehinlaiey's 12.38.  The top eight finishes in each event advance to the finals tomorrow.  She finished the day with a ninth-place jump of 17-04.25 (5.29m) in the long jump. 
 
Ricardo Torres ran a personal best time of 3:59.93 in the 1500-meter run to qualify for tomorrow's final in the 1500 which begins at 2:40pm.  Torres finished in sixth place this afternoon in the 26-athlete field. 
 
Over in the 800-meter run, the Jacks had four athletes qualify for the finals in either the women's or men's 800 tomorrow which are set for 3:50pm and 4pm on Saturday. Bath finished in sixth-place with her personal best time of 2:23.07 in the women's 800 for Humboldt.  In the men's 800-meter, the trio of Aris Valerio, Julian Jensen and Dominic Raffetto all qualified for tomorrow's final with personal best times.  Valerio ran a third-place time of 1:53.64 followed by Jensen in fifth place (1:54.10) and Raffetto in eighth place (1:55.63).
 
Grant Van Emmerik started his day today qualifying for the finals tomorrow in the 400-meters.  He ran a 48.94 that placed him second in today's field.  He just missed qualifying for the finals in the 200 as he finished in ninth place with a time of 22.14.  That time was 0.04 seconds behind Cal Poly Pomona's Alessio Sommacal who ran a 22.04 to finish in eighth place.  Van Emmerik will run in the 400-meter final tomorrow at 2:55pm. 
 
The Jacks earned points in both of the 10,000-meter runs.  The duo of Saedy Williamson and Rosa Granados finished in fourth and fifth place respectively in the women's 10,000-meter run while in the men's Elliott Portillo finished in eighth place.  Williamson ran a personal best 37:20.92, whichi is tenth all time at Humboldt, to finish in fourth place while Granados finished in fifth-place with a time of 37:32.94.  Portillo ran a personal best time of 30:59.50 to finish in eighth place for Humboldt
 
After six scored events, the Jacks women's team are in fourth place with 21 points with Chico State leading the way with 66 points. Cal Poly Pomona is second with 31 points followed by Stanislaus State with 23 points and Cal Poly Humboldt with 21 points.  Rounding out the field are Cal State San Marcos 16, Cal State San Bernardino 10, Sonoma State 7 and SF State 7, Cal State Monterey Bay 6 and Cal State East Bay and Cal State Los Angeles 4.
 
Humboldt's men are in sixth place after six scored events with nine points. Chico State leads the field with 87.5 points followed by Cal Poly Pomona's 61 points.  Rounding out the field is Cal State San Marcos (42.5 points), Stanislaus State (18 points), Cal State Los Angeles (13 points) and Humboldt (nine points).
