Humboldt Women’s Soccer to Face FPU and Dominican on the Road in Season Openers

Julia Humphreys and her Humboldt Women's Soccer Team will face FPU and Dominican, August 25 and 27
ARCATA, Calif.---- Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer team will begin their 2022 regular season this weekend on the road against two NCAA Division II opponents.  The Jacks will commence their season this Thursday, August 25 at 7:30pm, when they face Fresno Pacific in Fresno, Calif.  They will end their road trip in San Rafael with an 1pm scheduled match this Saturday, August 27 against Dominican. 
 
RECAP OF 2021:  The Lumberjacks went 4-10-4 overall and 1-8-2 in the CCAA.  They scored 14 goals led by returner Kendal Spencer's four goals.  Humboldt's defense allowed 1.27 goals last season while posting four shutouts.  Marisol Camargo returns for her second season in goal for Humboldt.  She played in five matches while posting one shutout with a 1.93 goals against average.  Camargo had a .788 saves percentage. 
 
OFFENSE:  Humboldt scored 14 goals last season and had 12 assists.  Kendal Spencer paced the Jacks with her four goals and one assist. Spencer recorded two game-winning goals for the Jacks in 2021.  Other returners that scored goals for Humboldt were Kelsey Bess (two), Brooke Weese (two) and Mia Castaneda with one.  Bess and Maya Davis each had two assists.  Castaneda along with returners Poppy Cartledge, Julia Humphreys and Erin Mohr each had an assist for the Jacks. 
 
ACADEMIC HONORS:  As a team this past academic year, the Lumberjacks were named a United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award recipient.  The Jacks had 16 players that received 2021-22 CCAA All-Academic Team recognition honors in Claire Bareilles, Abby Borg, Ryley Burton-Trazer, Rhea Chan, Niki Clark, Maya Davis, Tana Eri, Annie Hoffman, Julia Humphreys, Maddie Johnson, Erin Mohr, Sarah Paquette, Kendal Spencer, Brooke Weese, Josie Wolitzky and Gabby ZiemerKelsey Bess, Baylee Groom, Clara Lenihan and Emilie Wallin along with Bareilles, Borg, Burton-Tauzer, Chan, Clark, Davis, Eri, Humphreys, Johnson, Mohr, Paquette and Weese were CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recipients. 
 
FRESNO PACIFIC:  The Sunbirds went 3-12 last season including 3-7 in the PacWest.  They scored 18 goals last season in 15 matches led by returner , Tori DeLeon, with her six goals and four assists of which two were game-winners.  Madllyn Hernandez scored three goals and had an assist for FPU.  Chiara Soergel is back in goal for the Sunbirds. She had a 1.86 goals against average in seven matches with 17 saves and an .810 saves percentage.  The Jacks lead the all-time series with Fresno Pacific, 1-0.  They won the only meeting between the two teams 2-0 on September 2, 2017 in Arcata as Alex Jenkins scored both of the Humboldt goals.
 
DOMINICAN:  The Penguins were 5-8-3 overall and 4-6 in the PacWest in 2021.  They scored 11 goals in 16 matches while giving up 1.01 goals a match.  Tanya Bills is returning for Dominican as she scored a team leading four goals including two game-winners while assisting on a goal.  Kate Bianchi scored two goals and had two assists while Alejandra Melendez scored three goals for Dominican.  Humboldt leads the all-time series with the Penguins 4-0-1 with both teams playing to a scoreless tie in Arcata on September 3, 2021.  The Jacks defeated Dominican 1-0 during the pandemic season of March 27, 2021 as Brooke Weese scored Humboldt's goals.

UP NEXT:  After Saturday's match with Dominican, Humboldt will have its 2022 home opener at 4:30pm on September 1 versus William Jessup at College Creek Field. Two days later, the Jacks will host Holy Names at noon on September 3.
