Humboldt Draws With Stanislaus on Thursday

ARCATA, Calif. -- The 'Jacks hosted Stanislaus State for their Pink Game on Thursday at College Creek Field that saw the teams battle to a 0-0 draw. Despite having an advantage in the shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks, Humboldt wasn't able to convert any of their attempts and picked up one point at home. The 'Jacks now hold a record of 9-1-2 overall and 3-1-1 in CCAA play, slotting them at third place in the standings behind Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Marcos.

A slower start from Humboldt gave the Warriors opportunities in the first half. Although the 'Jacks still out-shot Stan State in the first half 10-6, the Warriors had two corner kicks and their defense didn't allow a Humboldt corner kick. Grace Johnson, Frida Duran Arellano, Simone Tafoya, and Brooke Weese all had shots on goal in the first half.

The 'Jacks kept their theme of responding well in the second half after making some adjustments. Offensively, Humboldt took 10 more shots than Stan State and totaled four corner kicks compared to the Warriors one. Tied for second most goals in the CCAA with six, Emilia Long and Frida Duran Arellano took a combined total of five shots in the final 45 minutes but were unable to put the 'Jacks on the board. In the last five minutes of the match, Humboldt recorded five shots and two corner kicks that had everyone in the stands on the edge of their seat, as there were opportunities to take the lead. The Warrior goalkeeper was kept busy as a result and posted 10 saves on the day, with two clutch saves coming in the second half to keep Humboldt off the scoreboard.

The team sported pink jerseys on Thursday that were sponsored by the Heather Janikowski Foundation in hopes to raise funds and awareness surrounding Breast Cancer research. Megan Janikowski created the non-profit foundation in memory of her mother, Heather Janikowski. If you wish to learn more or donate and support this cause, please visit https://hj.foundation/. All funds will be donated to a local family in the Humboldt area who has been impacted by cancer.
