Jacks Tame Wildcats to Pickup Three Points on the Road

CHICO, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer took on NorCal rival Chico State from University Soccer Stadium in Chico on Sunday. The 'Jacks edged out the Wildcats with a goal from Kylea Becker in the 26th minute for a final score of 1-0. Additionally, Carson Thomson-Terrel put on a showcase in goal with a total of seven saves. Humboldt remains undefeated on the road (4-0), pick up their 10th overall win on the season (10-1-2), and improve to 4-1-1 in conference play.

"I am so proud of this team," said head coach Grant Landy after the win. "This is one of the toughest places to play in the conference. To get a win here after a frustrating result last week at home shows a lot of character from this group. Our training the last couple of days had been light and confident, and that showed today. What an effort in very difficult conditions."

Natalie Mendoza of Chico State took the first shot on goal to threaten an early lead but it was saved by Thomson-Terrel. In the 26th minute, Erin Mohr pushed the ball up the right flank and found Emilia Long at the top of the 18 yard box. Long dribbled it in and passed it over to Kylea Becker who tapped it into the bottom left corner for an easy goal, giving the 'Jacks a 1-0 lead. Despite Chico having double the amount of shots in the first half (8-4), Humboldt went into the half with a 1-0 advantage.

The Lumberjacks only posted one shot on goal in the second half and keeper Carson Thomson-Terrel was busy in goal. Thomson-Terrel faced five shots on target in the second half from Chico and held off the Wildcats from finding the back of the net. Chico totaled more shots, shots on goal, and corner kick opportunities than Humboldt, but Humboldt's strong back line once again proved to be tough. This marks the fourth straight game that the 'Jacks have not allowed a goal from the other team.
