HAYWARD, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer opened their road trip up with a visit to Pioneer Stadium on the campus of Cal State East Bay (CSUEB). Friday's early evening battle saw the Pioneers win 1-0 on a penalty kick goal from Mika Sayfurahman early in the second half.
Grace Johnson led Humboldt with two shots on goal, while
Emma McChristie totaled three shots.
Carson Thomson-Terrel recorded four saves in goal.
An aggressive Lumberjacks team paced the offensive attack to start the first half, as shots were recorded by
Frida Duran Arellano and
Emma McChristie in the first three minutes. In the 9th minute,
Frida Duran Arellano put a ball on target that was saved by the Pioneer goalie. Just a few minutes later at the 13:37 mark,
Kylea Becker recorded a shot on goal that was also saved by CSUEB. A 0-0 first half saw Humboldt out-shoot East Bay 8-6 and have an advantage on the corner kicks (3-2).
The second half saw East Bay hold the momentum early on. At the 56:02 mark, a Lumberjack foul in the box awarded the Pioneers with a penalty kick opportunity. Mika Sayfurahman of CSUEB converted on the penalty kick to score her fourth goal of the season. In the final three minutes, shot attempts to tie the match from Johnson and McChristie were unsuccessful and East Bay held on for the 1-0 victory on their home turf.
