SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer closed out their Southern California road trip with a visit to Cal State San Marcos on Sunday. The Lumberjacks surrendered an early goal to the Cougars and fell with a final score of 1-0. After dropping back-to-back matches for the first time all season, Humboldt now holds a record of 10-3-2 overall and 4-3-1 in CCAA play.
Grace Johnson led the team with two shots and had the only shot on goal.
Cal State San Marcos was awarded a corner kick within the first minute of the match. At the 1:22 mark, Natalie Paulson scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Emma Hord and Hannah Ramos to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead over Humboldt. San Marcos out-shot Humboldt 4-3 in the first half and had more chances from the corner as well (4-0). At the half it was 1-0 Cougars.
The Lumberjacks struggled to gain momentum on offense, as their first and only shot on goal came at the 60:29 mark from
Grace Johnson. The defensive battle saw each team only allow one shot on target in the second half. Humboldt was unable to even the match with San Marcos and fell with a final score of 1-0.
The 'Jacks currently sit at fifth place in the CCAA standings with 13 points and the Cougars jumped up to second place in the standings with 16 points.
