ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt's Indoor Track and Field team will be heading north for the Spokane Invitational set in Spokane, Washington at The Podium. The meet takes place on Saturday, December 9th starting with women's weight throw, and women's long jump at 9 AM. This meet is a memorable one for the Lumberjacks, as it will be the start of their inaugural indoor season.
On the women's side, returning heptathletes Cocome Mckamey and Grace Kasberger, will look to fine tune their events as they prepare to better their personal records, and keep their momentum going from their second and third place finishes at the CCAA Conference Championships last year.
School-record breaker
Joy Hano is also set to compete in the 60 meter hurdles, a more condensed version of her outdoor event, the 100 meter hurdles. Freshman, Marielle Winuk, will also be the first person in Humboldt history to compete in weight throw, an event only seen during the indoor season.
For the men, newcomer Cristian Megas is going to prove to be an asset to the team, as he looks to compete in three events including: 60 meters, 200 meters, and the 4x400 meter relay. His speed and athleticism will help set the tone for the team this upcoming season. On the throws side, freshmen Derek Ray and Joseph Gonzalez will aim to make a huge impact, coming in as local standouts for shot put. They will be led by returner
Robert Cardenas III, whose experience and skill will allow the thrower's a comfortable trip to Spokane.
Since this is the first season of indoor track and field, all of Cal Poly Humboldt's marks will be all-time marks in the record book, simply writing Humboldt track and field history.
