Humboldt Women’s Track & Field Impresses At GVSU Big Meet on Saturday

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's indoor track & field team wrapped up competition at the GVSU Big Meet on Saturday with a standout day highlighted by event victories, strong sprint performances, and continued progress across the field events inside the Kelly Family Sports Center.

FIELD EVENTS

Cal Poly Humboldt saw steady performances across the jumps and throws, led by Cocome McKamey, who placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.28m (17-4). McKamey also contributed in the shot put, recording an 11.16m (36-7.5) effort.

In the throws, freshman Sophie Coil paced the Lumberjacks with an 11.29m (37-0.5) mark in the shot put. Fellow freshmen Isabella Claussen and Laura White added throws of 10.79m (35-5) and 10.29m (33-9.25), respectively. Marielle Winuk posted a 13.77m (45-2.25) performance in the weight throw.

In the high jump, Lily Shadden cleared four consecutive heights before narrowly missing at 1.53m.

TRACK EVENTS

The Lumberjacks were highlighted by a dominant performance from Isabel Perez-Zoghbi, who won the 800 meters in 2:12.20, which is another NCAA Division II qualifying mark (ran 2:07.74 on Friday - ranks sixth in NCAA DII) and led the field in one of the meet's most competitive races.

On the sprint side, Caitlyn Dougherty turned in a strong showing, placing fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.25. Mia Roberts followed with a 26.22.

In the 400 meters, Brielle Jimerson clocked 58.37, while Kelsi Lytle added a 1:02.77 effort. Dougherty also competed in the 60 meters (8.04) and 60-meter hurdles (9.63), with McKamey leading Humboldt in the hurdles at 9.26.

In the mile, freshman Brinna Weiseth crossed the line in 5:13.84.

The meet concluded with a statement performance in the 4x400 relay, where the Humboldt quartet of Dougherty, Jimerson, McKamey, and Perez-Zoghbi captured the event victory in 3:52.15, closing the weekend on a high note.

UP NEXT

Following the GVSU Big Meet, the 'Jacks will begin their outdoor season at home with the Green & Gold Open on Saturday, Feb. 28.
