CAIRNS, Australia -- The Cal Poly Humboldt Women's Soccer team concluded their Australian Tour on Tuesday in Cairns, where they beat Edge Hill United FC in dominant fashion. The friendly match finished with a final score of 6-0 and five different members of the team found the back of the net.
Grace Johnson led the team with two goals, while
Kylea Becker,
Annie Hoffman,
Simone Tafoya, and
Alexis Blue each had a goal of their own.
Grace Johnson said post game, "I've really been working on my one v one abilities and there was a lot of open space, especially in the middle of the field. I saw the opportunities to take the shots and I thought 'why not?'. Got two goals and am very excited."
Head coach
Grant Landy was proiud of his team after the match and the way they finished the tour. Landy added, "Defensively we were pretty solid. What I liked about tonight was just our movement off the ball. Our movement today and the goals we scored were really good. If we keep everybody healthy we have a really deep team."
The 'Jacks will aim to keep their momentum going as they host three home exhibition matches before their season begins on August 31. Johnson added, "We have a lot of talented individuals on this team. This trip has been a really great opportunity for us to forge so many good friendships and relationships on and off the field. We're just building to a very special season. I'm so excited for all these girls and for us as a team."
