Women’s Soccer Set For CCAA Home Opener Against Cougars, Toros

ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer opens its CCAA schedule this weekend with two home matches at College Creek Field. The Lumberjacks (2-3-2) host Cal State San Marcos on Friday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. PT as well as Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. PT. The match against San Marcos will celebrate Staff and Faculty Appreciation Day while Sunday's game will feature Youth Day, which include postgame autographs.

LAST TIME OUT

Humboldt came alive in its most recent match, dominating San Francisco State 4-0 on Saturday at College Creek Field. The Lumberjacks were scoreless in the first half but exploded for four goals in the second. Ava Stevens opened the scoring in the 55th minute on a low-right finish, assisted by Heidie Munoz. Karsyn Ross followed with a high-right strike in the 66th minute, and local product Alia Prentiss made it 3-0 shortly after. Alexis Blue capped the scoring in the 85th minute with a low-left finish.

The Lumberjacks' defensive unit limited the Gators to just seven shots while goalkeepers Carson Thomson-Terrel and Ari Beddoes combined for four saves. Humboldt also earned eight corner kicks compared to one for San Francisco State.

CLASHING WITH THE COUGARS

Cal State San Marcos (3-1-2) comes into Friday's contest seeking to maintain traction in CCAA play. The Cougars come into this matchup after defeating CSUSB in a tight contest, 1-0. This matchup marks the ninth meeting between both teams as the Lumberjacks look to maintain offensive precision while keeping composure defensively to contain the Cougars' attack.

TASKED WITH THE TOROS

Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-3-1) enters Sunday's match aiming to find their groove after a pair of losses at the end of non-conference play. Humboldt will need to sustain its attacking efficiency and defensive intensity to counter the Toros'. Historically, the 'Jacks have struggled against Dominguez Hills but will look to leverage their home-field advantage to come out on top. In their most recent matchup, the Lumberjacks were able to come out on top in a 1-0 defensive grudge match.
