Women’s Soccer Aim to Knock Off No. 3 Broncos and Climb CCAA Standings

ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer teams hit the road this weekend for a pair of CCAA matchups against a pair of Southern California opponents. The women face No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, Oct. 24 at 4:30 p.m., followed by Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 11:30 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT

The women (5-4-4, 3-1-2 CCAA) suffered their first conference loss of the season in a 3-2 setback to Cal State San Bernardino on Senior Day. The Jacks jumped ahead early on an own goal before senior Alia Prentiss scored in the second half, but Bella Cervantes' hat trick gave the Coyotes the win. Humboldt remains third in the CCAA standings with five matches remaining.

CAL POLY POMONA

The women's Broncos (11-1-1, 4-1-1 CCAA) are ranked No. 3 nationally and lead the conference with 13 points. Cal Poly Pomona is currently on a two-game win streak after dropping a game to Chico State and tying Stanislaus State in the two games prior. Humboldt will look to upset the nationally ranked squad on the road.

CAL STATE LOS ANGELES

The women's Golden Eagles (6-5-3, 2-4 CCAA) have struggled in CCAA play as they lost four of their first five games after going 4-1-3 in the preseason. After beating Cal State Dominguez Hill in their recent match, Cal State LA will look to go back to their preseason form against Humboldt. Humboldt will look to stifle the Golden Eagle offense further as the 'Jacks defense just ended a six-game shutout streak and LA has been shutout in half of their appearances in conference play.

HOW TO WATCH

UP NEXT

Following the CCAA road trip, the squad will have a split week at UC Merced on Oct. 31 before returning to College Creek Field for the final home match of conference play against Cal State Monterey Bay on Nov. 2. The weekend provides a critical opportunity to gain momentum heading into the season's final matches.
