ARCATA, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer will wrap up its three-game season-opening homestand on Thursday, Sept. 11, when the Lumberjacks host Biola at 3 p.m. PT at College Creek Field. The 'Jacks are looking to build on a strong performance in their last match as well as generate their first win of the 2025 campaign before hitting the road for the first time this season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lumberjacks (0-1-1) battled to a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Hawai'i Pacific last Sunday, earning their second result of the season. Humboldt dominated in several key areas of the match, outshooting the Sharks 27-4, including 10 shots on goal.
Karsyn Ross, Heidie Munoz, Morgan Young, Annie Hoffman, Charlotte Alvarez, Ava Stevens, and Payton Heaney led the offensive attack with almost nearly all the shots (22). On the defensive end, the 'Jacks stifled Hawai'i Pacific, limiting them to just four total shots, one shot on goal, and three corner kicks. Despite the scoreless draw, the match highlighted Humboldt's ability to control possession and create consistent offensive pressure, setting the stage for continued growth heading into Thursday's matchup.
BREAKING DOWN BIOLA
Biola enters Thursday's contest coming off of a 2-1 win against opponent San Francisco State, where Biola was able to find the net twice early in the game. San Francisco State had controlled most offensive facets of the game, as they led in shots (13-7) and shots on goal (8-4). However, Biola's goalkeeper had seven saves and proved to be the key defensive piece that brought home the victory for the Eagles.
Thursday's game will mark the second meeting between the 'Jacks and Eagles in recent history, as Humboldt came out on top in a high-scoring grudge match, claiming victory 4-3 over Biola in 2022. The 'Jacks will aim to carry over their offensive momentum from Sunday, focusing on finishing scoring chances and using their home-field advantage to notch their first win before a stretch of road contests.
