ARCATA, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer will continue its season at home on Sunday, Sept. 7, hosting Hawai'i Pacific at 11:30 a.m. at College Creek Field. The Lumberjacks are looking to bounce back in the middle of their seven-game non-conference slate, as they gear up for a competitive CCAA schedule this fall and a matchup against the Sharks.
LAST TIME OUT
Cal Poly Humboldt opened its 2025 season with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Dominican in its home opener Thursday morning at College Creek Field. After a scoreless first half, the Penguins broke through in the 49th minute with a penalty kick by Ysabella Belandres, which proved to be the game-winner.
The Lumberjacks controlled several key areas of the match, outshooting Dominican 7-5. The attack was led by midfielder Karsyn Ross, who had three shots, including one on net. Humboldt also matched the Penguins with three corner kicks and maintained consistent offensive pressure, including a late scoring chance in the 90th minute by Sari Murphy that went just wide. Despite the narrow defeat, the 'Jacks showcased a strong defensive effort and generated quality scoring opportunities throughout the match.
SINKING THE SHARKS
Hawai'i Pacific enters Sunday's match after opening its season with a 2-0 loss earlier in the season. The Sharks return several key contributors from last year's squad and bring a balanced offensive attack to their battle against the 'Jacks. This matchup marks the first of its kind as the two teams have yet to face each other, making for an exciting and unpredictable game. After their tight loss to Dominican, the 'Jacks are hungry to increase the win column and will look to control the tempo, capitalizing on home-field advantage on Sunday.
