Perez-Zoghbi Earns First Team All-America Honors with Third-Place Finish in 800m at NCAA Indoor Championships

ARCATA, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt's Isabel Perez-Zoghbi delivered a historic performance on the national stage this weekend, earning First Team All-America honors with a third-place finish in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia.

Perez-Zoghbi, Humboldt's lone indoor national qualifier, continued her impressive season with a podium finish against the nation's best. The sophomore athletically became a First Team All-American for the first time in her indoor track career.

Friday's preliminary round featured 18 runners across three heats, with the top two finishers in each heat plus the next two fastest times advancing to Saturday's final. Perez-Zoghbi secured her spot by finishing second in Heat 1 with a time of 2:08.19, the second-fastest time among all competitors in the prelims.

Her performance also carried regional significance as she was one of just two runners from the West Region to advance to the eight-runner final.

On Saturday, Perez-Zoghbi elevated her performance even further. She crossed the finish line in 2:07.00, setting a new Cal Poly Humboldt indoor program record in the 800 meters. The mark surpasses her previous record of 2:07.74, which she set earlier this season at the Riverfront Multis & Invitational.

The record-breaking performance secured third place in the national final, placing Perez-Zoghbi on the podium and earning First Team All-America honors.

Earlier in the week, Perez-Zoghbi was also recognized with USTFCCCA All-West Region honors, further highlighting her outstanding indoor campaign.

With the indoor season now complete, Perez-Zoghbi will turn her attention to the outdoor season, which is already underway for the Lumberjacks. She is scheduled to open her outdoor campaign next Saturday, March 20, at the Pacific Northwest Invite in Corvallis, Oregon.

Perez-Zoghbi's growing list of accomplishments continues to establish her as one of Humboldt's most decorated distance and middle-distance athletes.
