SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's track & field team will travel to San Marcos, Calif. this week to compete in the 2026 CCAA Championships, hosted by Cal State San Marcos starting Thursday, Apr. 30 and ending Saturday, May 2. The three-day championship meet will feature the top athletes from across the conference as the Lumberjacks look to build on a strong regular season filled with event victories, NCAA Division II qualifying marks, school records, and personal best performances.
Competition will begin Thursday with the combined events before continuing Friday and Saturday with preliminaries and finals across all events. Conference titles, all-conference honors, and NCAA postseason qualifying opportunities will all be on the line throughout the weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lumberjacks are coming off a strong showing at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and Raider Invitational, where Humboldt athletes combined for school records, NCAA Division II qualifying marks, event victories, and multiple personal best performances heading into the CCAA Championships.
Humboldt produced several standout performances across both meets. At Bryan Clay, the Lumberjacks rewrote the school record book in the 4x400 relay as Bennett Feldenkirchen, Cameron Bishop, Joey Bowser, and Jamie Saunders ran an NCAA Division II qualifying time of 3:13.22 to place sixth overall. Joey Bowser also led Humboldt in the 400m with a 49.06 performance.
Senior Paul Domingue delivered a season-best 14.30m in the triple jump, moving to fourth all-time in program history, while Joseph Gonzalez dominated the throws at nearby La Verne College with wins in both the shot put (16.53m) and discus (44.35m). Gonzalez later added another strong shot put mark of 16.35m in the invitational section.
At the Raider Invitational, Humboldt showcased impressive depth throughout the roster. Trevor Stewart won the 3000m steeplechase in a personal-best 9:46.06, while Alonzo Paul captured the 200m title in 22.01 before adding a season-best 10.83 in the 100m. Thomas Clark also recorded a personal-best 22.32 in the 200m.
The Lumberjacks swept both relay events, winning the 4x100 in 41.90 behind Paul, Clark, Adam Smith, and Aidan Shelton, before taking the 4x400 in 3:22.01 with Lucas Garin, Zachary Blood, Rylan Huryn, and Bryce Pearson.
In the middle-distance events, James Woolery led a dominant showing in the 800m with a season-best 1:54.14, followed by Keegan Henry's personal-best 1:54.81 and Nicholas Woolery's 1:55.93. Woolery also placed second in the 1500m in 3:58.30.
Michael Payan continued his stellar outdoor season with another NCAA Division II provisional mark in the pole vault after clearing 5.20m, while Derek Ray won the shot put at 14.59m and Adam Gomez captured the hammer throw with a personal-best 48.51m. Alexander Dillon added a second-place finish in the high jump at 1.95m as the Lumberjacks continued building momentum heading into the conference championships.
CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Lumberjacks enter the conference championships with momentum across nearly every event group and will look to contend for scoring positions throughout the weekend.
Humboldt brings strength in the pole vault, sprints, hurdles, middle-distance, and throws. Payan enters the meet among the conference favorites in the pole vault after consistently producing NCAA qualifying marks throughout the outdoor season. Another name to watch out for is sophomore thrower Joseph Gonzalez as he set a program record this season in the shot put and will look to make some noise at the conference level in his young career. Bishop, Paul, Phillips, Wiggins, Dorris, and Gonzalez will also be key contributors as the Lumberjacks pursue podium finishes and all-conference honors.
