ARCATA — After recording its first win of the season on Monday against Academy of Art University, the Humboldt State women's soccer team continues a three-game homestand with two games in as many days. First, the Jacks will face the Oregon Institute of Technology on Friday at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the Jacks will play Simpson University at 7 p.m. Both games will be played in the Redwood Bowl.
Head-to-Head: The Lumberjacks have only faced Oregon Tech once, a 5-0 victory in 2006. ...The Jacks have also faced Simpson University once, claiming a 5-0 win in 1999.
Lumberjacks Notes: Despite going 1-2 on to open the season, the Jacks have reasons to be optimistic about what's in store the rest of the way. The main problem so far has been an inability to finish scoring opportunities. Kelly Sandberg, a sophomore from Bellingham, Wash., has also been playing very well to open the season. Sandberg has played every minute this season in goal for the Jacks and recorded her first shutout of the season against Academy of Art.
Opponent's Notes: Oregon Institute of Technology enters Arcata with a 1-2-0 record. After winning their first game of the season 1-0 against Northwest University, the Hustlin' Owls have been on the other side of two 1-0 games against Willamette and Menlo College. …Defender Amy Furlan, a freshman from Medford, Ore., has scored the only goal this season for OIT. ...In goal, Jaclyn Unruh, a senior from Medford, Ore., has played every minute so far this season, recording a .67 goals against average, and has made 16 saves. ...Before facing the Jacks on Friday, OIT will face Biola University on Tuesday at 2 p.m. ...Simpson University enters its game with HSU 0-3. The Redhawks recorded tough losses in their first two games and got blown out by Hope International, 7-1 on Saturday. ...Karissa Hansen, a sophomore from Oakley, scored the only goal for the Redhawks this season in a 2-1 overtime loss to The Master's College last Tuesday. ...In goal, Jordan England, a sophomore from Elverta, has played all but 45 minutes in goal for the Redhawks. She has allowed seven goals and has made 27 saves so far this season.
