Jacks blanked at Cal State Dominguez Hills

CARSON – A goal early in the first half and one late in the second by Jessica Murphy were the difference as the Humboldt State women's soccer team fell to the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-0 on Friday night.

The loss drops the Lumberjacks to 3-10 overall, 3-8 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.  The Toros improve to 9-3-1, 7-3-1 in conference action.

In the seventh minute CSUDH's Murphy opened the scoring as she beat Jacks' keeper Jennie Paugh to the left side of the net.  Assists were credited to Kayley Evans and Lexi Ford

The Jacks were out shot 8-to-3 in the half, with Sarah Nakamoto and Chelsea LaRue getting the teams only shots on-goal.  After the first 45 minutes the sides went to the locker rooms with the Toros leading 1-0.

After the teams traded a couple of shots each to open the second half CSUDH took control of the match.  In the final 40 minutes of the game the Toros held HSU without a shot, while taking 11 of their own.  Paugh made six saves to keep the match at a one goal difference, but at the 89:46 mark Murphy struck again

Ford, who assisted on the first goal of the match, took a pass and crossed it to Murphy who sent it to the back of the net for the final margin, 2-0.

HSU finishes its two game road trip on Sunday at Cal State Los Angeles.  Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
