Johnson's Comments

“I haven't seen us come out that on fire yet this year.  I was very proud of the focus they showed early on (in Sunday's 2-1 win).  What concerns me is keeping our focus.  We kind of got away from what we wanted to do and opened an opportunity for our opponent to get back in to the game.  I'm happy to win, but again, we gave up a soft goal.  We were fortunate in a couple of other situations as well, especially late in the match.  We have to work on cleaning that up.” … “For the most part our back line has played well this year, particularly our center backs (Megan Kendall and Karen Pontoni).  I feel a bit sorry for them because some of the goals we have given up and the games we have lost have not been their fault.  We are in every game.  We have the talent.  But we are making a physical mistake here, a mental mistake there and that has been the difference in our season.” … “This is a tough weekend.  We don't know what to expect injury wise.  We have a number of injuries that we are working our way back from and I was pleased to see Arielle (Kern) was looking better last week.  These are two very good teams and we will have to play our best to be in a position to win.”

Lumberjack Notes
HSU is 2-8-0 overall and 2-6-0 in CCAA play  - 4th place in the North Division. … Senior Kim Carroll and junior Sarah Nakamoto lead the Jacks' attack with two goals each.  Nakamoto, the sides leading point scorer, has added one assist. Senior Kim Carroll's goal against Cal State Monterey Bay moved her into a tie for fourth place on the program's all-time list.  Her 16 career goals match Gabby Ahmadia. … Keeper Jennie Paugh is 2-5-0 while playing just shy of 592 minutes.  She has made 22 saves on the 31 shots that have been on frame and her goals against average (gaa) is 1.37. … HSU has been shutout in seven of its 10 games this season and have scored more than one goal in a match twice - 2-1 wins vs. No. 25 UC San Diego (9/17) and Cal State Monterey Bay (10/3).
