Haden, Suggs named All-CCAA

ARCATA – Seniors Tim Haden, a defender, and Josh Suggs, a forward for the Humboldt State men's soccer team, were named All-California Collegiate Athletic Association performers it was announced Thursday.

Haden, who was an honorable mention selection, and Suggs, chosen to the second team, are both Las Cruces, N.M. natives.

Haden finished his HSU career with three goals and one assist.  This season he established career highs in goals  and shots while playing a pivotal roll on the back line.  This is the first time Haden has received postseason honors.

“I know coaches in our conference are happy to see Tim graduate,” head coach Christian Johnson said.  “He is a big, physical defensive threat.  To win balls in the air, both offensively and defensively, is certainly one of the reasons he has earned this recognition.  His play is certainly deserving and this year he stepped up in the offensive third of the field both in scoring and setting up others on set pieces.  I am thrilled that he was able to finish his HSU career with postseason honors.”

Suggs led the Jacks with eight goals and added one assist this year and against Cal State Monterey Bay (10/29) he had the first hat trick of his collegiate career.  For the season his 74 shots were second in the conference.  He was eighth in points (17) and seventh in goals.  He finished his career as the sixth-ranked scorer in HSU history with 22 goals.  This is the third time Suggs, a co-captain, has been honored as an All-CCAA performer.

“Like Tim (Haden), I know that coaches around the CCAA are happy to see Josh's career coming to an end,” Johnson said.  “It is no surprise that he received this honor.  It shows the respect that the CCAA's coaches have for him.  His speed, vision and knack for finding the back of the net make him a huge scoring threat.  He, along with Tim, will be very hard to replace and I hope they both have a chance to be recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and on the Daktronics All-Region teams.”

HSU finished in fifth place in the CCAA's North Division with a 4-10-2 record and an overall mark of 4-11-3.
