Toros hand Jacks third straight 1-0 loss

Box Score ARCATA- An early second-half goal doomed Humboldt State as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday afternoon.

The loss drops Humboldt State to 1-7-2 overall, 0-5-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State Dominguez Hills improves to 6-4-1 overall, 4-4-1 in conference play. HSU returns to action Sunday afternoon as they take on Cal State Los Angeles, looking to snap a five-game losing streak.

"Unfortunately another one–nil loss," said head coach C.J. Johnson. "I thought at times our possession was excellent. We had opportunities but we're not getting them on frame."

HSU was unable to convert any of its four shots in the first half, but kept the Toros from finishing as well, resulting in a scoreless tie heading into halftime.

Jessica Murphy put the Toros on the board early in the second half, beating goalkeeper Amber Woolcock to give CSUDH a 1-0 lead.  Sami Feintein sent a long throw into the box where it bounced around before Murphy tucked it away in the 49th minute.

"Amber did a great job for us in goal," said Johnson. "We're still giving up what the coaching staff thinks are soft goals. We didn't get a great clearance out of the box, giving them a free look at goal."

The Lumberjacks' best scoring opportunity came in the 74th minute when Tamra James took off on a breakaway, but goalkeeper Tiffany Hollis kept the Jacks from getting the equalizer.

"We'll rebound and look for another battle on Sunday versus an excellent team," said Johnson.
