Last trip will conclude 2012 season on the road for Jacks

ARCATA — It seems like the Humboldt State women's soccer team season just started, and now it is coming to an end. The Jacks head out on a final road trip, facing two tough teams as they hope to end the 2012 campaign on a positive note. Humboldt State first heads to Sonoma State on Friday, Oct. 26, before facing its only win so far, Chico State, on Sunday, Oct. 28.

For four seniors (Bre Taylor, Carly Kolpin, Tamra James and Terri Tigert), the two games will conclude their collegiate careers.

Head-to-Head
Both Sonoma State and Chico State hold the upper hand in the all time series. Including the 2-0 victory earlier this season, the Seawolves have beaten HSU 15 times, with Humboldt State grabbing six wins and four draws. The Wildcats stand at 12-8-5 in the all time series after falling 3-2 in overtime to the Jacks last month.

Seawolf Notes

The Seawolves fell 1-0 to the Toros last Friday, but grabbed a 1-0 overtime win at Cal State L.A. on Sunday. ... The Seawolves have scored 34 goals this season, limiting their opponents to just nine goals. ... Cara Curtain leads the attack for SSU, scoring 13 goals with four game-winners. Sara Studer, Ashley Martin and JJ McFarlin have each added four goals to the Seawolves' total. ... Alexis Sciacqua boasts a 0.55 goals against average and has kept 10 clean sheets this season.

Wildcat Notes
Chico State enters the weekend's contests with a 6-10 overall record. The Wildcats also come off a split on the weekend, beating Cal State San Bernardino 2-0, but falling 3-0 to UC San Diego. ... Lumberjack Notes
Humboldt State currently stands at 1-11 overall, a record that doesn't reflect the way the Jacks have been playing. Humboldt State has competed with every team its faced, even grabbing the first goal in multiple occasions, but hasn't been able to convert that over into victories. ... HSU comes off two losses against Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Jacks battled back from a three-goal deficit at CSULA to tie the game, but fell 3-4 in the first overtime period. Against the Toros, despite firing off 17 shots, the Jacks could only convert one goal and fell 1-4 to CSUDH. ... The Jacks have scored 14 goals this season, four more than last year's total, but have surrendered 33 goals to their opponents. ... Maddi Null continues to produce offensively, scoring six goals this season—half of which have been game-tying goals and one game-winner—including two in the  3-4 loss to CSULA. ... Colette Behen follows closely behind with three goals of her own and two assists. Tamra James continues to get into the attack from her defensive position and has assisted four times.

Johnson Says
"We continue to score goals and be creative in our attacking, but we struggle staying focused for 90-plus minutes. Our mistakes are costing us goals, and often, these mistakes happen early in the match and we have to play behind. ... We just flat out didn't play well in the second half against CSUDH. Had we played like we had in the first half, we would have made a game of it. ... We need to be more competitive, mentally speaking. We have to stop giving up soft goals: not making a save that should be made, making a blind pass after excellent possession play resulting in a counter attack, not clearing a ball properly to result in a corner kick or a deflection for an own goal.  ... Sonoma State is one of three programs we've faced this season that can honestly win a National Championship. This match will be a tremendous test. They are very athletic and organized when attacking in numbers. They don't make many mistakes. ... Chico State is having a bit of a surprise year, struggling as we are. We had a great match with them last month. The rivalry will continue to create a great match-up. ... We can be successful if we are more mentally tough and mentally competitive. We need to stay focused, communicate and translate what takes place in training to game day."
