Box Score ARCATA – For most young teams, it is either easier to stop goals on defense or make them on offense. The Humboldt State women's soccer club has been challenged offensively the past few weeks and it continued on Friday afternoon.
After not scoring in either home match last weekend and only one single goal in the past four contests, HSU did not put any of its five shots on goal against San Francisco State.
The visiting Gators, though, were able to put one of their four shots on goal when Mariela Holquin put a bounding corner kick across the goal crease into the net for the match's lone score, 1-0, at 47:12.
"Today was another opportunity missed," pointed out Jacks head coach
Paul Karver. "They were better than us today and they deserve credit for the win."
Since scoring three times to open the season, HSU (3-6-2/1-6-2 California Collegiate Athletic Association North) has only been able to find the back of the net six times in the 10 matches since.
Colette Behen put all three of her shot attempts on net along with one each from
Lizzie Mitchell and
Sydney Nicholas but all coming with no results against the Gators (4-5-2/3-5-1 CCAA North)
"We need to dedicate more to our attacking play and our ability to finish. Everything is a building process right now and we are constantly reevaluating ourselves," added the HSU director.
HSU will try to break onto the win column for the first time at home this season in the next match on Sunday against Cal State Monterey Bay starting at 11:30 a.m.
