Box Score ARCATA – Humboldt State's offensive struggles continued, but it's stingy defense led the way —holding Cal State Monterey Bay scoreless for 110 minutes in an eventual 0-0 scoreless women's soccer tie on Sunday afternoon.
The result ended the HSU three-match losing skid, but did not exactly get the squad back into the win column.
"It is always difficult to move off of a 3 game slide," noted Lumberjacks' head coach
Paul Karver. "In the past we may have looked for reasons to lose this game but today the girls were looking for a way to win it. That is a major step for is as we continue to build the program."
The search for a fourth win on the year was not enough to get HSU back putting the ball in the goal.
It has been two calendar weeks and more than 460 minutes on the pitch since the Jacks have found the net. The scoreless streak continued with 110 minute of not scoring against Cal State Monterey Bay (5-5-2/4-4-2 California Collegiate Athletic Association North).
"We are still looking for somebody to score goals but the chances are coming, we are close," added Karver.
The goals may not have come for HSU, but the defense was strong.
In the shutout, goalkeeper
Amber Woolcock had three saves as the Jacks' defense continued their solid play—holding opponents to two goals in the last three games (290 minutes of action).
The Jacks (3-6-3/1-6-3 CCAA North) pushed the ball forward throughout the match against the Otters, but ultimately were only able to put three shots on goal.
Two of HSU's best opportunities came in the final five minutes of regulation.
Maddi Null saw headers go wide left and then wide right of the goal at 86:06 and 87:00.
The Otters outshot the Jacks, 14-5, overall on the match.
The Jacks will play the first of five road matches in a row on Friday at 3 p.m. when they visit Cal State San Bernardino
