Siebert and Jacks bite Gators in three

Sam Siebert and Alex Hasenstab block the matches final point
Box Score ARCATA – It may have taken until the final home match, but Humboldt State found the quickest winning combination of the season.

On her 'Senior Night,' Sam Siebert and the Lumberjacks took a bite out of the Gators of San Francisco State in sweeping fashion, 3-0, on Saturday night.

The straight-set victory (25-21, 25-19 and 25-22) was the first such win for HSU on the year.

"It's our first 3-0 win and it felt good," admitted Siebert, the lone HSU senior.

The Jacks (11-16/6-14 California Collegiate Athletic Association) snapped their six-match losing streak and the second sweep of an opponent this season in the Gators (12-16/7-13 CCAA).

"It feels good (to win in three sets).  I think we passed, sided out and offensively had one of our better nights all season," said HSU head coach Kelly Wood.  "We played smart and stayed consistent and were able to make a couple runs of our own."

HSU was able to put together three and four-point spurts in each of the night's three sets.

In her final appearance in Lumberjack Arena, Siebert punctuated the home win when she teamed with middle blocker Alex Hasenstab to block San Francisco State's Jaclyn Clark for the final point of the match.

"The girls really wanted to win the final home match and win for Sam," added Wood.

Along with the match-ending block assist, Siebert finished the evening with 38 set assists to go with seven digs.

Ashley Owen and Symone Hayden both hit over .290 on the HSU frontline.  Owen lined 13 kills, recorded a .296 hit percentage and blocked three attacks.  Hayden posted 12 kills of her own with eight digs and one block.

Kaitlyn Dunaway rounded out the double-digit kill players with 10, while having eight digs and an ace.

Hasenstab and Courtney Debrunner downed four kills apiece.

Kelci Renshaw added nine digs, an ace and an assist.

Erin Mitchell served a pair of aces and dug three balls, while Colleen Noonan had an ace of her own with five digs.

Leading 17-16, HSU netted seven of the next nine points before Owen killed the final point for a 25-21 opening set.

A four-point Jacks' short run gave the breathing room for the rest of set two until Owen finished off the final point, 25-19, for the second time.

Clark paced San Francisco State with 13 kills, eight digs and two aces.

HSU will start its final week of the season next Friday night in a 7 p.m. bout at Chico State.
