No. 17 Warriors Nets First Half Pair to Overtake Jacks

Box Score TURLOCK, Calif. — No. 17 Cal State Stanislaus' pair of first half goals was enough to overtake Humboldt State women's soccer, 2-0, Friday night.

The Warriors' (9-1/2-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association) Kirsten Coleman generated all the offense on the night. Coleman scored 11 minutes into the match and assisted on the other score at 35:58, while her team's defense held the Lumberjacks (6-3/1-2 CCAA) to only four shots on goal.

"Stanislaus is possibly the best team we've seen all year. The quality that they showed this evening should see them going deep in the tournament," said HSU Head Coach Paul Karver. "We didn't do a good enough job in the first half and I will take responsibility for that. I have to do a better job of preparing our players to play in big games against top teams."

Against the top nationally-ranked teams, HSU has suffered its only three defeats. The Jacks are 6-0 versus non-ranked foes.

"The first 45 minutes was not a good indication of how good we can be. The second half we came out and played well, but it was just not enough," said Karver. "One side of the story is that we have still have only lost to top 20 ranked opponents, but the other side is that we have now let three opportunities slip through our fingers."

Cal State Stanislaus attempted nine shots in each half to outshoot HSU, 18-10. Keeper Amber Woolcock stopped six Warrior attempts.

Colette Behen and Lizzie Mitchell booted three and two shots, respectively, but no other Jack player had more than one try.

"We have to finish this weekend with a win and the girls will be motivated to get that done on Sunday afternoon," said the Jacks coach.

On Sunday afternoon, HSU will host San Francisco State starting at 11:30 a.m.
