Women’s Soccer Brings Points Streak Back Home

ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State women's soccer aims to remain unbeaten in October (2-0-1) with a pair of home matches this weekend. The Lumberjacks (7-4-1, 3-2-1) are coming off an early week win and have an opportunity to shake up the conference standings with four straight home matches beginning Friday.

"We have six games left and obviously the goal is to make playoffs," said Head Coach Paul Karver. "It is really muddy in the middle of the conference. There are a lot of teams with level points and level games. Now it is about making sure not only do we earn points, but that we aren't sacrificing points."

The tight California Conference Athletic Association race is leaving the door open for the majority of teams to make a push in the final stretch of the year. The Jacks, sitting on 10 points over six CCAA matches, are one of nine conference teams between nine and 13 points. Even undefeated Sonoma State, who sits at the top of the table, has just 16 points.

The first opportunity for the Green and Gold to earn a result will come Friday at 12:30 p.m. The Jacks will match up against UC San Diego (8-4-1, 4-3-1) at College Creek Field. The Tritons, tied for third in the conference, are very offensive minded and lead the conference in shots and are second in goals. This will contrast with an HSU side that leads the CCAA in saves.

The Jacks will return to campus on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. for a game with Cal State San Marcos (3-5-4, 3-3-2), a team that is also entering the week with two wins and a tie over its last three matches.

"What's so cool about this group is that you don't have to tell them much," said Karver. "They understand what's going on. They are focused right now on playing San Diego and getting these results."

The Jacks will play a total of four straight at home before wrapping up the regular season with two on the road to finish the month.
