ARCATA, Calif. - The Humboldt State women's soccer team is back on campus after a special weekend in Southern California. The Lumberjacks (5-2, 2-0) earned a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association wins on the road last week, and has an opportunity to do the same at home this week.
The Jacks, already with more CCAA wins than any of the past four seasons, host Sonoma State on Wednesday and Chico State on Friday. Both matches will be played at College Creek Field at 12:30 p.m.
"It's a big challenge for us, and it's obviously a rivalry game," said Head Coach
Paul Karver. "This was the goal and we wanted to be in this position. It's such a cool group of girls to be around, and everyday we are learning about each other."
Last weekend, Sonoma State earned a tie and a win against the Los Angeles schools. It was also announced on Monday that Sonoma State is receiving votes in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II National Poll. The Seawolves enter the match 3-1-2 overall and undefeated in conference with the win and draw. Chico State has yet to play a CCAA match this season, but does boast an impressive 4-1-1 record on the season.
The similarity between the two opponents is simple enough to spot. The two teams have allowed just three goals apiece this season and are only a decimal apart as the conference leaders in goals against average at 0.47 and 0.48, respectively. HSU is fifth in that category with a GAA of 0.96.
The Jacks have won five consecutive and look to equal last season's high of six in a row.
