ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State women's soccer will be away from home for two more California Collegiate Athletic Association matches this upcoming weekend as they take on Cal State San Marcos Friday at 12:30 p.m. and UC San Diego Sunday at 2 p.m.
After a tough weekend that saw the Jacks fall to both Stanislaus State and Cal State East Bay, Humboldt State sits at 2-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
"The road trip continues, and the reality is that the girls really aren't tough to travel with," said head coach
Paul Karver. "They are a really fun group to be around, and they enjoy being around each other as well."
Cal State San Marcos sits at 3-1-3 overall and 1-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Midfielder Megan Pfrunder has served as the Cougars' biggest threat with a goal and three assists this season.
"The trick is going to be playing a San Marcos team that doesn't really want to play," said Karver. "They like to kick the ball out of bounds and play for draws. They did it to us here last year in a game that we should have won. They are athletic, physical and play ugly soccer, but it's effective."
UC San Diego has won three straight and is currently ranked eighth in the nation. The Tritons enter this weekend's game 6-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Reigning CCAA Player of the Week Mary Reilly has scored four goals this season. Reilly is tied for the conference lead with five assists.
"UC San Diego is a team that should be in the Final Four this year," said Karver. "They are an incredibly talented team – very fast and very athletic. They are a team that should run away with the conference. Sunday's game is going to be a big challenge for us".
