ATHERTON, Calif.--- For the fourth time this spring season and second match in a row, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks recorded a shutout this time a 2-0 win over the Menlo College Oaks. In their six matches this spring, the Lumberjacks have allowed just three goals while recording four victories.
"I am really proud of the performance our guys put in this week," said head coach
Fred Jungemann. "It was a lot of games in a short period of time, particularly with several key injuries that limited our depth. To go through all that and still have the energy to compete for a great result today says a lot about their heart and character. Today's 2-0 win is a great way to finish this road trip and certainly makes the trip home more enjoyable."
Daniel Adeyeye scored the Lumberjacks' first goal on a ball from
Gou Nitta. HSU doubled its lead to 2-0 on a goal from
Edgar Castaneda off an assist from
Christian Gonzalez.
Adrian Gallardo and
Jacob Cotton each played a goal in half for the 'Jacks.
During their first six matches this spring, Humboldt State has outscored its opponents 12-3 including a 5-0 win at Holy Names back in late March.
"We scored some good goals over the six games this spring and the two today were no exception," added Jungemann. "We played well at times, and gave ourselves some positives to build on for the fall. Our defense in particular though, deserves a lot of credit for their performances in these games. To play these six games in difficult circumstances and only conceded only one goal from the run and play is really amazing. Both of our defenders and two goalkeepers have a lot to be proud of from these games."
