Women’s Soccer to Finish Off Season Long Road Trip with a Pair of Matches in the Bay Area

ARCATA, Calif---  The Humboldt State Lumberjacks started their four-match road trip by going 1-1 in Monmouth, Ore., this past weekend.  The 2-1-1 Lumberjacks started the weekend with a 4-1 win over Central Washington.  They finished the weekend with a 1-0 loss at Western Oregon.  The 'Jacks will return to the pitch this Thursday at 1pm with a match in Atherton, Calif., against Menlo College.  They will finish their road trip in Hayward, Calif. versus Holy Names at Pioneer Stadium on the campus of Cal State East Bay. 
 
COACHING STAFF:  Coach Grant Landy will begin his second season at the helm of the Lumberjack women's soccer program after coaching for 23 years at Concordia University-Portland.  During his career, Landy has compiled a 391-85-39 record for a .798 winning percentage. He will be assisted by Lumberjack Alum Taylor McMillin, who is in her fourth season as the top assistant for the women's soccer team.

RECAP OF LAST WEEKEND:  The 'Jacks started their weekend with a 4-1 win over Central Washington this past Friday afternoon.  Kendal Spencer scored two goals while Brooke Weese and Kelsey Bess scored the Lumberjacks' final two goals.  Spencer, Bess, Clara Lenihan, Baylee Groom, Maya Davis and Julia Humphreys all had assists for the 'Jacks.  Alexis Aguilar had one save in goal for HSU in 78 minutes while Marisol Camargo had one save in the final 12 minutes.  HSU finished its weekend with a 1-0 loss at Western Oregon on Sunday afternoon.  The Wolves scored the only goal of the match in the 12th minute.  HSU outshot the Wolves 11-9 with six coming off the foot of Groom.  Aguilar had four saves in goal for the 'Jacks.
 
LEADERS:  Humboldt State is scoring 1.50 goals a game while giving up just 0.75 goals a game.  Kendal Spencer leads HSU with her three goals (one assist) for seven points.  Kelsey Bess and Clara Lenihan each have three points with one goal and one assist.  The Lumberjack's other goal comes from Brooke Weese while four other players have recorded assists in Poppy Cartledge, Maya Davis, Baylee Groom and Julia HumphreysAlexis Aguilar has a 0.49 goals against average with 14 saves and one shutout.
 
CCAA/NCAA LEADERS:  Kendal Spencer is tied for first (two game winning goals), tied for second (seven points) and tied for third (three goals) in the recent CCAA Statistics report.  Alexis Aguilar is fourth in goals against average (.489), fourth in saves (.875), fifth in saves per game (3.50) and tied for fifth in shutouts (one).  Spencer is tied for third in the nation in the NCAA Division II with her two game-winning goals.  
 
MENLO:  Menlo College is 3-0-1 with their tie being a scoreless match with Cal State Monterey Bay.  Ally Salzwedel leads the Oaks with her three goals while Brynn McClymond and Kori Ann Koverman each have scored two goals.  Ella Sonneld has two assists to lead Menlo.  Michelle Gonzalez has posted a 0.54 goals against average with a .913 saves percentage and one shutout in goal for the Oaks.
 
This is the first meeting between the two teams.  The two teams did face each other during the shortened season last year with the match finishing in a 2-2 tie in Sonoma County.
 
HOLY NAMES:  Holy Names enters this week with a 0-2 record.  The Hawks will face Chico State on Monday and Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday prior to  facing HSU on Saturday.  Alyssa Acuna has scored HNU's only goal while Kylie Tisdale has the Hawks' only assist.  Nyah Summers has a 2.49 goals against average with a .722 saves percentage and 13 saves in goal for the Hawks.
 
HSU leads the all-time series 3-0 with the Hawks including a 4-1 win in 2016 in Arcata. 
 
UP NEXT:  After this weekend, HSU will return home to begin a three-match homestand on Saturday, September 25.  The 'Jacks will face Chico State in a rare non-conference match-up at College Creek Field at 3pm.
