Lumberjacks to Commence Season Long Four-Match Road Trip This Weekend in Oregon

HSU Celebrating After Kendal Spencer's Goal Late in its 2-1 Win over Hawaii Hilo
ARCATA, Calif---  After going 1-0-1 at home to open the 2021 season, the Humboldt State women's soccer team will commence their season-long four-match road trip this weekend with a pair of matches in Monmouth, Ore.  The 'Jacks will face Central Washington this Friday and Western Oregon this Sunday.  Both matches have a scheduled starting time of noon and will take place at WOU Soccer Field on the campus of Western Oregon University.
 
COACHING STAFF:  Coach Grant Landy will begin his second season at the helm of the Lumberjack women's soccer program after coaching for 23 years at Concordia University-Portland.  During his career, Landy has compiled a 390-84-39 record for a .799 winning percentage. He will be assisted by Lumberjack Alum Taylor McMillin, who is in her fourth season as the top assistant for the women's soccer team.

RECAP OF LAST WEEKEND:  Humboldt State went 1-0-1 this past weekend in its two matches at College Creek Field.  The 'Jacks started the weekend off with a 0-0 double overtime tie with Dominican (Calif.) this past Friday afternoon.  Alexis Aguilar posted her first shutout of the season with nine saves in the match.  HSU came back on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Hawai'i Hilo.  Clara Lenihan connected on a ball from Poppy Cartledge in the sixth minute to give the hosts the early 1-0 lead.  The Vulcans tied the match at 1-1 in the 20th minute.  The score remained tied until the 74th minute when Kendal Spencer scored on an unassisted goal in what proved to be the game-winner for HSU.  Aguilar had three saves in the win for the 'Jacks.
 
LEADERS:  Alexis Aguilar has posted a 0.45 goals against average in the Lumberjacks' first two matches.  She has a .900 saves percentage with nine saves and a shutout.  She is currently in the top ten in the CCAA in saves/game (third), shutouts/game (fourth), saves percentage (fourth) and goals against average (seventh).  HSU's two goals were scored by Clara Lenihan and Kendal Spencer while Poppy Cartledge had the Lumberjacks' assist. 
 
CENTRAL WASHINGTON:  Central Washington is 1-1 after its first weekend with a 3-2 win over College of Idaho and a 2-1 loss to Chaminade.  Mackenzie Packwood has two goals and an assist for the Wildcats while Sydney Lowe has scored a goal.  Megan Fox has posted a 2.00 goals against average with 14 saves and a .778 saves percentage. 
 
HSU leads the all-time series with the Wildcats 5-4, but Central Washington has won the last two meetings 1-0 in 2005 and 2008.  The last  win for HSU was 2-1 in 2005 in Arcata. 
 
WESTERN OREGON:  Western Oregon is 0-2 after losing both of its matches in Colorado. The Wolves lost 1-0 to Western (Colo.) and 2-1 to Colorado Mesa.  Jada Foster scored the Wolves' goal while Hannah Rispler had the assist.  Darien Walton has a 2.00 goals against average with five saves and a .625 saves percentage.
 
The Lumberjacks' lead the all-time series with Western Oregon 9-7-1 with the 'Jacks on a three-match winning streak against WOU including a 2-1win in Monmouth in 2014.  WOU's last win was a 2-1 double overtime victory in 2008 also in Monmouth.

UP NEXT:  After Sunday's match in Oregon, HSU will continue its road trip with a pair of matches in the Bay Area on September 16 and 18.  The 'Jacks will be in Atherton, Calif., for a 1pm starting match with Menlo College on September 16.  They will end their road trip in Hayward on September 18 for a 4:30pm match with Holy Names University.
