Rosa Granados Provisionally Qualified for Nationals Today in the 10K
SAN FRANCISO/HAYWARD, Calif.---  Cal Poly Humboldt's Rosa Granados ran a fifth-place time of 36:27.66 in the 10,000-meter run this afternoon in Day One of the Mike Fanelli Classic in San Francisco to lead the way for the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks.  Her personal best time provisionally qualifies her for nationals this May and moves her into sixth place on the Humboldt Top Ten List.  Including Granados' 10K performance, the Jacks recorded eight top five finishes either at the Mike Fanelli Classic in San Francisco or the Chabot Invitational in Hayward, Calif., this afternoon.

"Today was an outstanding competition for Cal Poly Humboldt," said head coach Sarah Ingram.  "Both at SFSU and Chabot College, the athletes were hitting new personal best performances left and right. The sprinters and distance runners had huge bests today!! Valerie Heywood took 3rd and 4th place in the meet while dropping PR times in the 100m and 200m. Ryan Castro broke the 11 second barrier for the first time in the 100m taking 8th place. Chris Roberds ran a lifetime best in the 100H, taking 4th in the meet and hitting a conference qualifying mark. Jaxon Leduc and Grant Van Emmerik also set new conference qualifying marks in the 200m and Steeplechase respectively. The biggest news of the day however was Rosa Granados 10,000m performance. She ran an impressive race, setting a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark which ranks her 13th in the nation currently, and 6th place all time in the Cal Poly Humboldt record books. Plus, Joy Hano captured the 100-meter hurdles."

MIKE FANELLI CLASSIC:  Cal Poly Humboldt had three student-athletes in Rosa Granados, Elliott Portillo and Jaxon Leduc.  Granados finished in fifth place in the 10,000-meter run with her personal best time of 36:27.66 which placed her fifth in the field.  She provisionally qualified for the nationals and is currently 13th in the nation.  Portillo finished 21st with his personal best time of 31:10.59 in the 10,000-meter run.  Leduc finished 22nd with his personal best time of 9:51.46 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

"On the throws side, Kegan set new bests in both disc and shot taking 4th and 5th places," added Ingram.  "Jason set a new hammer PR, and Delaena PR'd in both shot and disc as well. In jumps, Kaela won the high jump competition, and Jonathan took 6th place after a heart-breaking clearance where the wind knocked the cross bar down. Across the board, there were no disappointing performances today. It's truly gratifying to see everybody come off the rest week and perform so well. I think it's clear that the training we're doing is working, and we've got really great momentum building. It was a fun day celebrating the team's success."
