Jacks to Face William Jessup and Holy Names in First Home Stand of 2022

Maddie Johnson and Humboldt's Women's Soccer Team will host WJU and HNU, Sept. 1 and 3
ARCATA, Calif.---  Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer team will have its 2022 home opener this Thursday, September 1 at 4:30pm when the Jacks host William Jessup at College Creek Field. Two days later, Humboldt will entertain Holy Names at noon.  This will be the Jacks' first two home matches after starting the season on the road.
 
RECAP OF LAST WEEKEND:  Humboldt (0-1-1) began its season with a 1-0 setback at Fresno Pacific on Aug. 25.  The Sunbirds scored in the 17th minute in which what proved to be the game-winner.   Carson Thomson-Terrel posted two saves in goal for the Jacks.  The Jacks and Fresno Pacific each had eight shot attempts, but Humboldt held a 4-2 in shot on goal attempts and 7-2 in corner kicks.  Humboldt came back two days later and played to a 0-0 draw with Dominican (Calif.) in San Rafael.  The Jacks outshot the Penguins 13-6 including 7-0 in shot on goal attempts.  They also held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.  Thomson-Terrel posted her first shutout in her career in the Green and Gold.
 
HUMBOLDT:  Carson Thomson-Terrel recorded two saves and had a shutout in the Jacks' first two matches of the regular season.  She posted a 0.50 goals against average over the weekend.  In Humboldt's two matches last weekend, the Jacks outshot their opponents 21-14 including 14-3 in shot on goal attempts.  Maya Davis had a three shot attempts of which two were on goal attempts.  Jysabella Tolentino had two shot on goal attempts while Emilie Wallin, Frida Duran Arellano and Julia Humphreys each had two shot attempts. 
 
WILLIAM JESSUP:  The Warriors lost their regular season home opener 5-4 on Aug. 26.  Kaylee Gillespie scored two of their goals while Sarah Stralen and Kye Johnson each scored the other two.  Gillespie along with Alyssa Irwin and Olivia Chimienti each recorded assists for WJU.  Mya Rodriguez recorded five saves in goal for William Jessup, who finished the 2021 campaign with a 9-5-3 record.
 
SECOND MEETING:  Cal Poly Humboldt won the first meeting between the two teams 4-0 on Sept. 21, 2019 in Arcata.  Current assistant coach, Rose Harman, scored one of the four Jack goals.
 
HOLY NAMES:  The Hawks went 2-0 in their first two matches of the 2022 season.  They opened up the season with a 2-0 win at Lincoln (Calif.) on Aug. 25. Two days later, Holy Names defeated Northwest Nazarene 2-0.  Alexis Aguilar posted a 0.00 goals against average with 12 saves and a combined shutout in the two matches.  Geneva Williams has a 0.00 goals against average with two saves and a combined shutout.  Zinet Sidiqi has scored two of the Hawks' four goals while Alyssa Duenaz and Camila Juarez each have one.  Melody Her, Devin Lozano and Taleah Mendoza each have an assist.

UP NEXT:  After Saturday's match versus Holy Names, the Jack be back on the road for their final three non-conference matches of the regular season in Chico.  The Jacks will face Biola on Sept. 8 at 4:30pm and Azusa Pacific on Sept. 10 at 11am.  Humboldt will be back in Chico on Sept. 17 for a rare non-conference match-up with Chico State at 4:30pm.
