ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer team hits the road this weekend for a pair of CCAA matchups against nationally ranked opponents. The Jacks take on No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at 7 p.m. before closing the weekend at (RV) Cal State LA on Sunday at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The men (3-9-1, 0-5-0 CCAA) battled back from a two-goal deficit in a 2–1 loss to Cal State San Bernardino. Robert Somerville scored in the 71st minute, while goalkeepers Edwin Monterrosa and Alvaro Nieves combined for eight saves to hold the Coyotes scoreless after halftime.
CAL POLY POMONA
The men's Broncos (6-3-4, 1-2-2 CCAA) also had a rough start to CCAA play thus far as they have just come across their first win after tying two and losing two after the end of preseason. Humboldt is catching Cal Poly Pomona at the right time and should look to capitalize on the Broncos early struggles.
CAL STATE LOS ANGELES
The men's Golden Eagles (6-3-4, 3-3 CCAA) started CCAA play going 3-1 while having the offense average over two goals a game. In their last two games, their defense has allowed three goals in each while scoring just one total. Humboldt's offense can capitalize on defensive miscues from the Golden Eagles.
HOW TO WATCH
UP NEXT
Following the CCAA road trip, the squad will have a split week at UC Merced on Oct. 31 before returning to College Creek Field for the final home match of conference play against Cal State Monterey Bay on Nov. 2. The weekend provides a critical opportunity to gain momentum heading into the season's final matches.
