ARCATA, Calif. – Fresh off an exciting last-minute win on Sunday, Humboldt State women's soccer returns to the road for California Collegiate Athletic Association matches with Sonoma State (Wednesday, Oct. 19) and Chico State (Sunday, Oct. 23).
The Lumberjacks have a 4-9-1 overall record and a 2-5-1 mark in the CCAA.
After suffering a 4-0 loss to San Francisco State last Friday, HSU claimed a 1-0 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday. A
Bridget Daley goal with 24 seconds remaining in regulation clinched the victory for the Jacks.
"After Friday's loss it is easy for a young group to take a step back," said head coach
Paul Karver. "With the weather and everything on Sunday, we had to compete and the girls did that and scored a great goal to win it."
Sonoma State enters the week with a 9-2-1 record overall and is in second place in the CCAA with a 7-1 mark. The Seawolves are currently ranked No. 20 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, and they are led by goalie Allison Haddian who has recorded a 0.58 goals against average.
"Sonoma provides another great test for us," said Karver. "If we can manage the small details, we can get results."
Chico State has an overall record of 7-7-1 and is 3-7 in the CCAA, good for 10th place.
"Chico is starting to gain momentum," said Karver. "The biggest thing on that day will be emotion with it being their senior day. That is always a trap, and we have to see how we manage the emotion of things."
The Jacks will return home for their last two regular season home matches. HSU will host Cal State Los Angeles (Thursday, Oct. 27) before hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills (Saturday, Oct. 29) on Senior Day.
