ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State women's soccer wraps up its regular season when it hosts California Collegiate Athletic Association matches against Cal State Los Angeles Thursday at 12:30 p.m. and Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
HSU enters the weekend with a 4-11-1 record overall and is 2-7-1 in CCAA competition after losing to Sonoma State, 2-1, and Chico State, 5-1, on the road last week.
"At Chico we learned a lot about a couple different players that we really didn't know," said head coach
Paul Karver. "We moved
Madison Barnett back to center back, and she was phenomenal back there. It was the first time she ever played there for us. She was really, really good and performed well when she stepped out of her comfort zone."
Cal State Los Angeles comes into the week with a 6-7-2 record overall and is 5-5 in the CCAA. Anahie Duran leads the Golden Eagles with five goals and two assists this season, while goalkeeper Adriana Maldonado has seven shutouts and averages 4.73 saves per game.
"LA is good and right in the thick of the playoff race," said Karver. "They are fast and strong and will provide a great athletic challenge for us."
Cal State Dominguez Hills has a record of 7-8 overall and is 4-6 in CCAA play. Toros goalkeeper Elisa Martin has recorded 63 saves, six shutouts and has a 0.72 goals against average.
"Dominguez is going to have to fight really hard," said Karver. "They need the points to get into the playoffs so they'll be going for broke on our Senior Day."
Saturday's match will also be the final appearance for two Lumberjack student-athletes. Seniors
Kylie Forbes and
Samantha Morris will play their last game for the Green and Gold and will be recognized in a ceremony prior to kickoff.
