For the past two Saturdays, the Cal Poly Humboldt Women's soccer team volunteered their time to help local club Sequoia FC with their Saturday academy sessions.  These were the first two of four Saturdays that the team will be involved with the youth club, setting up drills, demonstrating exercises and providing strong role models for the players age 5-13.

"One of our goals this off-season is to get out into the community, so what better way to jumpstart this process by having our players help Sequoia FC as they start their spring academy, " Humboldt head coach Grant Landy said.  "This is an important age where young players can find a love and passion for the game.  I hope our players can help be part of this process for them."

Sequoia FC Interim Coaching Director Taylor McMillin, who also serves as the Lumberjacks assistant coach, was pleased with how the first two days went for all the young players, as well as how the current college players are making an impact. 

"The college players brought great energy to each session the first two Saturdays," McMillin said.  "The Sequoia players were excited to see the older players out there.  I am hoping to partner more with our current college players as we grow and develop this club."

Lumberjack defender Abby Borg also said the kids made an impact on them as well.  "It was super fun to get an opportunity to play with these players," Borg said.  "Some of my best memories growing up were experiences like these and I know our team is looking forward to helping out in the weeks ahead."
