Bill Scobey was born in Inglewood, CA in 1945 and grew up in the San Fernando Valley where he attended Cleveland HS in Reseda. Bill ran track and cross country his junior and senior years and was Los Angeles City School's Cross-Country Champion in 1962.   

After high school Bill attended Pierce junior college where he was a member of the 1965 AAU All-American team in the mile, 2-mile, Distance Medley and 4-Mile Relay. The 4xMile Relay Team set the National JC Record.  Bill spent 3 years in the Army with a tour of duty in South Korea before attending Humboldt State College. He was a member of the US Army Track & Field Teams in 1967 and 1968. 

Bill attended Humboldt State College from January 1969 through February 1971 with a major in History/Recreation. He received his Teaching Credential in 1971. As a student/athlete he was a four time All-American, 3 times in track and once in cross country. Bill won the NCAA DII 3 mile in 1969 and set many school records including the Mile, 2-Mile, 3-Mile, Marathon, 2-Mile, and Distance Medley Relays. Teammate and HSU Hall of Famer Vince Engel and Bill set a National Collegiate Record in the 2-Man 10-Mile Relay. He was selected by the US Olympic Distance Running Camp at Washington State University. There he was a part of the World Record setting 10-Man 24 Hour Relay. 

Scobey retired from track racing in 1972 when I was hired as a fireman with the Oxnard Fire Department. Although Bill continued to run road races and marathons until 1985 and was an AAU All-American in the marathon twice. His time in the Western Hemisphere Marathon of 2:15:21 was the fastest marathon in the Western Hemisphere and was also the California State record. Bill also ran the Avenue of the Giants in 1973 and won in record time of 2:17. Bill, Gary Tuttle and Track Coach legend Jim Hunt were owner and operators Of the Humboldt State Long Distance Running and Steeplechase Workshop. They ran this workshop from 1975 thru 2001. 

Bill retired from the Oxnard Fire Department in 2001 after 30 years of service. He has a Daughter Heather who married Dan Stueckle and lives in Puyallup, WA. They have 3 girls and one boy. All three girls won scholarships in Track and Field to the University of Washington of which two were All Americans.
