Humboldt Athletics Hall of Fame
Johnston was a member of the Humboldt State Lumberjacks' women's soccer team from 1993 to 1996. During her career at HSU, Johnston was an All-Region pick in 1996, and a two-time First Team All-NCAC honoree in 1995 and 1996. She also was the team captain of the first ever HSU intercollegiate women's soccer team in 1995. Johnston was the primary individual for developing the women's soccer team into a program that would become intercollegiate after four years as a highly successful club team. During her senior season, the Lumberjacks finished 11-4-5 and defeated UC Davis 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA West Region championships.
