Because of his speed and agility, Burman received more football honors and publicity than any two-year player at HSU. he was named all-conference and most valuable player during his HSU career, and was also a second-team UPI All-Coast and NCAA western District first team as a senior in 1968. As a junior he was the FWCs top rusher with over 900 yards. In his senior year he gained more than 1200 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. Burman also ran the 440 and 220 in track while at HSU. After graduation, Burman tried out with the San Francisco 49’ers. During a scrimmage he received a cracked rib, a broken nose, and a sprained ankle. Said Burman: “I decided football wasn’t fun anymore.”
