Humboldt Athletics Hall of Fame
Katie Walsh was known for her unhittable pitching in softball during the late 1940s and the early 1950s. Her effort in women’s athletics are particularly noteworthy because they came at a time when women’s competitive sports were prohibited at most colleges. Although she could participate in various club activities relating to athletic, in order to reach her full potential Walsh had to go outside the university and play softball in a city league for the E.L. Pierce Softball Team. The Hall of Fame honor was awarded to Walsh posthumously. She died in early 1978.
