When he enrolled at Humboldt in 1929, he was elected co-captain of the College eleven and was heralded by sports writers as “husky, fast, and exceptionally strong.” of his baseball prowess, writers called him a “crack first baseman known throughout the country as one of the neatest fielders and hardest hitters.” He also lettere at the College in basketball, playing standing guard for Fred Telonicher.

Although these three sports were the only ones offered for a letter, unofficially Bransetter was College champion on both tennis and boxing. In 1930 he won the first Redwood Empire Golf Club cup.
