Ray Mechals was a Humboldt State linebacker and fullback who was named “Mr. Tackle” for each four years he played on the Lumberjack team. When Mechals graduated in 1954, he was a member of the “Block H” Club, having lettered in varsity football, basketball, and baseball. As a climax to his college career, he was named honorary captain during his senior year and selected All-American. He was also an outstanding punter.
